Saint of the Day, September 13: Saint John Chrysostom
St. John Chrysostom (347-407): John was named Chrysostom (golden-mouthed) on account of his eloquence. As the Bishop of Constantinople, he made many enemies by reforming the clergy, criticizing the rich for not sharing their wealth, preventing the sale of ecclesiastical offices, calling for fidelity in marriage, and encouraging practices of justice and charity. He is a Doctor of the Church.
