Calderon: Mexico casino fire deaths ‘act of terrorism’

52 people were burned alive today in an arson attack at a Mexican casino. Security cameras captured the arrival of a dozen gangsters shortly before the outbreak of the fire. This is the third attack on casinos in northern Mexico this month; the two previous attacks are attributed to drug gangs, and a narcotics cartel is suspected in today's slaughter. Mexico is embroiled in a bloody drug war between government forces and criminal organizations that has killed an estimated 39,000 people since December of 2006.

Given the insatiable appetite for drugs directly north of the border, the Mexican authorities are rolling their boulder up a very steep hill.
