Central Florida has been home base to the US space shuttle program since its inception. With the last flight in the books and the program shuttered, the region is facing an extra economic dislocation in these difficult times. Not only those who worked at Cape Canaveral are impacted, but local contractors are out of work and small businesses are seeing a loss of business. In difficult times, people find strength in the faith.
“Coming together as a family of faith is the only way to get through it with all the different struggles and things that are happening,” said Geraldeen Leger, parish bookkeeper.

“We totally depend on the Space Center financially, but we are finding our offertory increased. Our finance council is considering how we may be able to help once people are no longer receiving severance pay,” said Father Andrew Wojtan, pastor. He said participation in spiritual programs has also increased.

“The faith of the people is high. The hunger for Scripture is high... The parish is reviving. People are re-inspired from the right source — from the Holy Spirit.”
