Saint of the Day, August 9: St. Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein)

Edith was a Jew who earned a doctorate in philosophy at the age of 25. After much study, she converted to Catholicism. She became a Carmelite nun and taught at two schools in Germany. Hatred of both Jews and Catholics forced her to flee to Holland, where she was later captured and sent to Auschwitz to die in the ovens.
