Saint of the Day, August 27: Saint Monica
St. Monica (322-387): A Christian from birth, Monica was given in marriage to a bad-tempered, adulterous pagan. Once an alcoholic herself, she prayed constantly for the conversion of her husband and her son, St. Augustine. Both of them eventually converted.
