Egypt withdraws its ambassador to Israel after border deaths

A team of Palestinian terrorists hurried across the border from Israel to Egypt. An Israeli helicopter gunship raced towards them, opening fire. Caught between the two were a squad of Egyptian police. Five of these policemen are now dead, prompting anger in the Egyptian public. Crowds of Egyptians took to the streets to protest outside the Israeli embassy in Cairo, and the Egyptian government has now withdrawn its ambassador to Israel in protest over the policemen's deaths.

The  Palestinian terrorists had killed eight Israelis near the popular resort of Eilat on Thursday. They had infiltrated into southern Israel from Egypt to carry out a series of attacks against Israeli civilians traveling to the vacation destination, and were returning to Gaza, again via Egypt, with Israeli troops on their heels when the firefight ensued.

The terrorist attack on holidaymakers in southern Israel has led to an escalating armed conflict between Israel and the Hamas controlled Gaza strip, and now to diplomatic tensions between Egypt and Israel. Israel has conducted a number of airstrikes within Gaza against the leadership of the organization responsible for Thursday's atrocity, to which Palestinians have responded with multiple rocket attacks against Israel. The Arab Spring has become a merciless summer.
