Libya conflict: Col Gaddafi faces rebel uprising on streets of Tripoli
They rose on cue. It was all according to plan, but the plan required them to make an act of faith with their very lives, to trust that when they took to the streets to fight they would not be alone. And so it has begun, the final battle in Libya. While rebels attack Gaddafi's loyalists within Tripoli, armies advance from without, from the east, and from the west, and from the south, in a coordinated final assault. Rumors abound. It is unclear whether Gaddafi remains in Tripoli. He has made a final, defiant audio address, but many say that he has already fled. It would be well for him to have done so, given the grim inevitability of the situation. Tripoli will fall; the end of Muammar Gaddafi is at hand.
