Libya: how 'Operation Mermaid Dawn', the move to take Tripoli, unfolded

When jubilant rebels poured into Tripoli's Green Square (now renamed Martyr's Square), firing celebratory gunshots into the air, "where is Muammar Gaddafi" was not the main thought on their minds. "Allahu akbar!" they shouted instead, their victory apparent.

But we can't help but be curious now. The ultimate fate of the narcissistic megalomaniac who ruled over Libya for 42 years is the only question left unanswered. His regime is well and truly dead, whatever happens to him. At this moment there is a heated battle taking place at his compound in Libya's capital city. Is this dead-enders fighting to the last alone, or are they protecting the final, frizzy-haired  prize? It is reported he could find refuge in Venezuela. And how about Sudan?

As we await the ultimate resolution to Gaddafi's iron-fisted rule, The Daily Telegraph has an article detailing the planning and execution of Operation Mermaid Dawn, this audacious military action we have all watched unfold to stunning success in a mere two days.
