Saint of the Day, August 23: St. Rose of Lima
St. Rose of Lima (1617-1668): A Dominican tertiary, Rose was the first saint born in the Americas. She was a beautiful girl who was devoted to chastity, having made a vow of virginity by the age of five. A mystic and visionary, she suffered from invisible stigmata and many other ailments. She cared for the sick and healed some miraculously Misunderstood by her family, who opposed her piety, she died at the young age of 31.
