Asia News: Pakistan- Assassination of Shahbaz Bhatti: new falsehoods from the police
AsiaNews reports on disturbing new developments in the investigation into the March 2, 2011 assassination of Shahbaz Bhatti. Bhatti, the Minister for Minorities and a Catholic, angered Muslim extremists by speaking out publicly against the country's blasphemy law and for advocating the cause of Asia Bibi, a Christian woman sentenced to death under that law. Police have taken two men into custody, saying that "it would be too early to comment on their involvement in Bhatti's assassination as there is no evidence available about their involvement." The men are ex-Christians who converted to Islam, and are said to have had a property dispute with the Bhatti family; Christians and Muslims alike fear a cover-up is under way.
