The Sun interviews the young woman at the center of an incredible story of betrayal.
College student Ruth Jeffery was the victim of a truly perverse campaign of harassment. She was bombarded on a constant basis by messages from men seeking her acquaintance, men directed to her by obscene profiles that sprang up on the internet in her name like toadstools in the undergrowth. She received vile propositions from what at first blush seemed to be former classmates. Intimate photos of her were posted online and emailed to her family and friends.
Her lover directed suspicion at a friend of his whom he claimed had stolen the photos, subjecting the man to a humiliating police investigation and the ostracism of public doubt. But it was her boyfriend all along, whom she had known since childhood, a man she loved and intended to marry, that had been methodically ruining her life.
"[A]ll the time he was pretending he loved me, he was putting me through hell, making out that he was me on the internet and sending nude photos. . . I was in love with a man who acted like a devil."
Shane Webber has shown no remorse and is even joking about his squalid campaign of psychological torture. He will be sentenced next month. Read the full story here.
