Fides: PAKISTAN - False accusations of blasphemy against a Christian, the court invites him to "leave the country"
A Christian teacher at a Pakistan public school has been hounded from his job and forced into hiding after a Muslim student concocted false charges of blasphemy against him, Fides reports. The student, after being reprimanded for his lax study habits, conspired with Muslim teachers to burn pages from the Koran and accuse the teacher of the desecration, which is a crime in Pakistan. The teacher was forced to resign and faces ominous threats to his life. Appealing his case to the Pakistani legal system, the teacher, unnamed to protect his safety, was counseled to leave the country rather than receiving justice. The case demonstrates how Pakistan's blasphemy laws are open to abuse by those with personal grievances.
